Assess
A detailed history and a thorough examination of movement, strength and the affected area. You leave knowing what is wrong, why it happened and exactly what we are going to do about it.
Structured rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery: knee and hip replacement, ACL reconstruction, shoulder repair, post-fracture, coordinated with your surgeon's protocol. Surgery addresses the structure, but the strength and movement only come back with the rehabilitation that follows; skip it, or start too late, and a good operation can still leave you stiff, weak, and short of the function you were promised. At our Liverpool Street clinic in the City we provide post-operative rehabilitation that rebuilds strength, movement, and function through phased, criteria-based progression.
Overview
Recovery after surgery is rarely automatic. The operation addresses the structure; rehabilitation restores the function. Skip it, or start too late, and a good operation can still leave you stiff, weak, and short of what you were promised.
We guide recovery after a range of orthopaedic procedures, including:
Where your surgeon supplies a written protocol we follow it, layering our own progressive loading, range-of-motion work, and movement re-training on top. Progression is criteria-based: you advance when you meet measurable milestones in strength, range, swelling control, and movement quality, not simply when a set number of weeks has passed. Our HCPC-registered physiotherapists lead each phase with hands-on physiotherapy, and exercise rehabilitation rebuilds the strength and confidence for a tested return to work or sport.

I saw Amanda for a problem I've been having with a painful shoulder. She explained to me what the problem was, did a thorough treatment session and gave me some exercises to do to improve it. Very professional and friendly, I highly recommend her.
I first visited Amanda following a maisonneuve fracture. That day I walked 107 steps in a camboot with two crutches. I have visited weekly. Yesterday I walked 13,315 steps (no crutches, no boot). The transformation is truly amazing.
I booked with Michelle for my first appointment. When I stood up I said to her it feels like heaven as my continuous back pain had totally gone. I was totally pain free for 7 hours so bless you Michelle.
Excellent treatment of my lower back and related sciatica injuries from CrossFit. Definitely my go-to therapist when in dire need of pain relief.

We guide recovery after total knee and hip replacement, ACL reconstruction, meniscal and cartilage repair, rotator cuff and shoulder stabilisation surgery, and fracture fixation. The plan is built for the operated joint and the demands you need to return to.
Where your surgeon supplies a written protocol we follow it, layering our own progressive loading, range-of-motion work, and movement re-training on top. Bring the protocol and your operative notes to your first appointment so we start at the right point.
You advance to each new phase once you meet measurable milestones in strength, range of motion, swelling control, and movement quality, rather than simply when a set number of weeks has passed. This protects the healing repair and reduces the risk of re-injury.
Most surgeons want rehabilitation to begin within the first one to two weeks, sometimes sooner for joint replacement or ACL reconstruction. Starting at the right time is one of the strongest single predictors of a good long-term outcome.
We account for your work, sport, and daily demands at every stage and test your readiness before you progress. The goal is a confident, well-tested return to the life you had before surgery, not simply the absence of pain.
Why it happens
Joint replacement surgery: total knee or hip replacement, most often following osteoarthritis
Ligament reconstruction: ACL, MCL or lateral ankle reconstruction after an acute injury
Tendon repair: rotator cuff, Achilles or distal biceps repair
Cartilage and meniscal procedures: repair, debridement or transplant
Fracture fixation surgery requiring graded return to weight-bearing and movement
Shoulder stabilisation after dislocation or recurrent instability
Your first visit is a full 60-minute assessment: a detailed history, then testing of how you move, how strong you are and what the painful area is actually doing. We explain the working diagnosis in plain English and agree a plan with you before any treatment starts.
You leave with a written summary and a home programme, emailed the same day and loaded into the Move Health app so the technique stays right between visits.
The starting point for better health. Our clinics work together to take you from injury, through recovery and performance, to the kind of health that holds up for decades. One team, one plan, one record of where you started.
You can refer yourself, with no GP letter needed, and book online in a couple of minutes at whichever clinic is easier to reach.
Most people arrive with something that hurts. What happens after that is the part most clinics leave to chance. We treat the problem, rebuild the capacity you lost, then keep you strong enough that it stays fixed.

Hands-on manual therapy chosen for your presentation, with Western medical acupuncture or soft-tissue work added where they help. Treatment is not the goal in itself: it opens the window to move and load properly.
Progressive, coached exercise rehabilitation restores the strength and load tolerance you lost, with full gym facilities at both clinics. This is the stage that decides whether the fix lasts.
Each follow-up measures you against your own baseline. We discharge you when you have the strength and the tools to manage alone, with clinical Pilates, sports massage and golf screening on hand to keep you there.
Treatment approach
Physiotherapy leads post-operative care: your surgeon's protocol combined with manual therapy, progressive loading, range-of-motion work and criteria-based milestones to guide each phase of recovery.

Most surgeons want rehabilitation to begin within the first one to two weeks after surgery, sometimes sooner for joint replacement or ACL reconstruction. The exact timing comes from your surgeon's protocol, so bring it to your first appointment. Starting at the right time is one of the strongest single predictors of a good long-term outcome.
Yes. Where your surgeon supplies a written rehab protocol or wants direct contact, we follow it and coordinate accordingly. If no protocol is provided, we proceed using current best-practice guidance for your specific procedure and adapt to the operative notes you bring to your first session.
It depends entirely on the surgery. Hip and knee replacement rehab commonly runs over several months toward full function, while ACL reconstruction with return to pivoting sport typically takes nine to twelve months with structured testing. We give you an honest, individual projection at your first appointment based on your procedure and starting point.
Rather than advancing purely by the calendar, you progress to each new phase once you meet measurable milestones: controlled swelling, restored range of motion, adequate strength and good movement quality. This protects the healing repair, reduces re-injury risk and ensures every step forward is earned and tested rather than assumed.
