Assess
A detailed history and a thorough examination of movement, strength and the affected area. You leave knowing what is wrong, why it happened and exactly what we are going to do about it.
Golf loads the lower back, lead hip and trail shoulder hard, and it exposes restrictions rather than creating them from nothing. Amanda is TPI-qualified as well as HCPC-registered, so treatment addresses the swing as well as the symptom.
Overview
Golf asks for a specific combination of rotation, stability and sequencing, and where the body cannot supply it the swing compensates. Those compensations are what produce both the injuries and the inconsistency.
The lower back is the most commonly affected area, driven by the rotational and side-bending load of the swing, particularly where hip or thoracic rotation is restricted and the lumbar spine takes up the shortfall. The lead hip and trail shoulder are the next most common, along with elbow and wrist problems from repeated impact and practice volume.
What makes golf worth treating as its own concern is that the fix is rarely just the painful area. A restricted thoracic spine will keep loading the lower back regardless of how much treatment the back receives. That is why assessment here includes a TPI movement screen alongside standard physiotherapy assessment, so the physical limitation driving the compensation is identified and addressed.

I saw Amanda for a problem I've been having with a painful shoulder. She explained to me what the problem was, did a thorough treatment session and gave me some exercises to do to improve it. Very professional and friendly, I highly recommend her.
I first visited Amanda following a maisonneuve fracture. That day I walked 107 steps in a camboot with two crutches. I have visited weekly. Yesterday I walked 13,315 steps (no crutches, no boot). The transformation is truly amazing.
I booked with Michelle for my first appointment. When I stood up I said to her it feels like heaven as my continuous back pain had totally gone. I was totally pain free for 7 hours so bless you Michelle.
Excellent treatment of my lower back and related sciatica injuries from CrossFit. Definitely my go-to therapist when in dire need of pain relief.
Lower back pain in golfers is usually a compensation for restricted hip or thoracic rotation. Treating the restriction rather than only the back is what stops it returning round after round.
Some faults are technical and some are physical. If your body will not produce the position your coach is asking for, no amount of technical work will fix it. A screen tells you which one you are dealing with.
Restoring rotation and sequencing through the hips and thoracic spine is a reliable route to club head speed, because it unlocks movement you are currently compensating around.
We adjust practice volume rather than stopping you, so you keep rhythm and fitness while capacity rebuilds. Range sessions are usually the first thing to modify.
Longevity in golf is what most golfers actually want. Maintaining rotation, strength and control as you age is what determines whether you are still playing comfortably in twenty years.
Why it happens
Restricted hip or thoracic rotation, forcing the lumbar spine to compensate through the swing
A rapid increase in playing or practice volume, particularly at the start of the season
Reduced strength and control through the trunk, hips and gluteal muscles
Repeated impact load through the wrists and elbows from range practice
Poor sequencing between the lower and upper body during the downswing
Existing musculoskeletal restrictions that golf exposes rather than causes
Your first visit is a full 60-minute assessment: a detailed history, then testing of how you move, how strong you are and what the painful area is actually doing. We explain the working diagnosis in plain English and agree a plan with you before any treatment starts.
You leave with a written summary and a home programme, emailed the same day and loaded into the Move Health app so the technique stays right between visits.
The starting point for better health. Our clinics work together to take you from injury, through recovery and performance, to the kind of health that holds up for decades. One team, one plan, one record of where you started.
You can refer yourself, with no GP letter needed, and book online in a couple of minutes at whichever clinic is easier to reach.
Most people arrive with something that hurts. What happens after that is the part most clinics leave to chance. We treat the problem, rebuild the capacity you lost, then keep you strong enough that it stays fixed.

Hands-on manual therapy chosen for your presentation, with Western medical acupuncture or soft-tissue work added where they help. Treatment is not the goal in itself: it opens the window to move and load properly.
Progressive, coached exercise rehabilitation restores the strength and load tolerance you lost, with full gym facilities at both clinics. This is the stage that decides whether the fix lasts.
Each follow-up measures you against your own baseline. We discharge you when you have the strength and the tools to manage alone, with clinical Pilates, sports massage and golf screening on hand to keep you there.
Treatment approach
A TPI movement screen links the physical limitation to the specific swing demand it is compromising, which is what allows the underlying driver to be treated rather than just the painful area.
See treatment detail →Assessment and hands-on treatment settles the presenting problem, most commonly low back, lead hip or trail shoulder pain, while the corrective work addresses the cause.

The golf swing loads the lumbar spine rotationally and in side bending. Where hip or thoracic rotation is restricted, the lower back takes up the shortfall and becomes the point of overload. Treating the restriction usually matters more than treating the back.
Restoring rotation and stability often improves club head speed and consistency, because it lets you use range you already have rather than compensating around a restriction. It works alongside coaching, addressing the physical side while your coach handles technique.
Usually not entirely. We more often adjust practice volume, particularly range sessions, while treating and building capacity. Complete rest tends to lose you fitness and rhythm without addressing what caused the problem.
If you are in pain, start with physiotherapy assessment. If the same problem keeps returning, or if a swing fault has resisted coaching for months, a TPI screen is usually the more useful next step because it links your body to your swing directly.
